Many problems SOLVED... with one screw.

You've probably noticed my many postings over the last couple of weeks. '90 SPG 250k. Was having near-overheating issues, very hot cat, hesitation in turbo in the mornings, and terrible gas milage (around 20mpg). Everything I thought pointed to bad timing, which had just been adjusted by a reputable shop. Well last night I found a posting while searching for "turbo hesitation" that said it was solved by checking the screws on the vacuum advance above the distributor. I was actually about to swap mine out with a spare, but thought I would try that first. Checked this morning, and sure enough, one of the screws holding the vacuum advance down was loose! Tightened it down and bingo! Drove to work this morning with temp levels below the middle, my window switches weren't melting anymore, and turbo was clean, smooth boost all the way into the red! It was like the RadioFlyer was young again. In my excitement, I didn't pay as close attention as I should have and flew right by a motorcycle cop. He got me for 51 in a 35 and pulled me over in my office parking lot. So moral of the story... check that screw, and watch out for motorcycle cops.
