Automatic Transmission fluid leak after rebuild Posted by BAAB [Email] (#1214) [Profile/Gallery] (more from BAAB) on Sun, 14 Aug 2011 22:01:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
After a fresh rebuild, I have been driving my '79 900 gle for the last few days. Everything seemed fine until I drove it on the interstate tonight, doing about 70 mph without a glitch - it was very smooth. When I got home though, there was transmission fluid all over the drivers (left) side of the engine bay. I didn't see any fluid on the passenger (right) side. When I looked underneath I saw fluid dropping pretty quickly from the middle of the rear seam of the front cover of the transmission (the cover that hides the valve body). Is it possible that fluid leaked from only there and not the T.C. seal, gathered on the skid plate and then the wind from going fast blew it everywhere? How can I be sure it is (or is not) leaking from the TC seal? It its a new seal, but perhaps it got damaged even though I was very careful to keep the TC pushed into the transmission pump, as I didn't have the proper plate that keeps the TC in the perfect place.
Thanks for any help!
