Holy manifold gasket

'90 SPG 250k. For the last 9 months, the exhaust manifold gasket has had a raging hole close to the turbo on the ouside. Finally got around today to try taking off the manifold and replacing the gasket after a weekly coating of red hi temp silicone. First exhaust stud I tried (closest to the turbo) broke off deep inside.
I have a spare head (with about 64k), but it has the same exhaust stuf broken off at the same depth. Should I: 1) prepare the fresh head, 2) with three or so threads still left on the inside, try screwing the stud back in 3) drill it out since it is not as much stud as if it were broken higher up, or 4) just coat the whole thing with ceramic exhaust leak-stop clay and hope for the best?
Please cast your vote, or if you have another option, please share.
THanks!
