total sudden failure disaster- what happened??

Nightmare on the road tonight, and still in shock from it.... Driving my 92 900s home from work, first drive since a fresh oil change. Everything going along fine driving at about 45 mph, straight road, 4th gear. A sudden noise, a loss of some power, something definitely not right... within about 8 seconds, a sudden very loud horrible noise from the engine- I turn off the ignition right away and come to a quick stop. Oil is draining out onto the road from the back of the engine... and I see on the road that some fluid had starting coming out from the car at the exact point on the road that I heard the noise- but it is night and I cant tell if it is oil or ... I have never heard what a timing chain break will do or what a seizing engine will sound like, but I do know it was the worst sound I have ever heard a car make- a terrible loud grinding groan...
I thought for a moment maybe I had somehow botched the oil change but the oil drain plug was there as well as the filter still secure with no leaking...
When I pushed the car off to the side in neutral there was still a clicking coming from the engine compartment as the wheels turned. So- what is your guess? Transmission failure? The shifter still feels the same... Timing chain? Any insight, advice would be great. I don't want to lose this car..... But it feels like it just died a horrible death. Thanks, Matt
