Saabers, While driving the 900, everything was normal- I shifted into second gear- no problem- then while trying to slide into third- a nasty grinding noise emitted. I then pumped the clutch pedal several times, and tried again- same result.
Now after pulling over- I placed the stick into first gear, and the while lifting off the clutch- the car would not move- almost like a struggle. I shifted into second- same thing- no movement, yet a slight launching feeling. I finally shut the car off. A moment later, I turned the engine on, shifted into first with no problem, and pulled off smoothly. shifted into second- no problem- went for third again- nasty grind! So, the 900 moves( had to go on a couple of errands) with no problem 1st/ second and reverse. I haven't tried fourth for I am afraid I may screw up the box further. Any possible explanation for this symptom?
Damn- two tranny failures on two 900 within a month.
The other 900 tranny( just installed it too, yet did not rebuild it- yet I accidentally drove over a parking cement block, and ever since- tranny notchy) goes into first gear, yet can not go into second gear. I can shift from 1st into third, however.
Here are the questions, for I hsve rebuilt these boxes before and wondering what can be wrong with each.
There is no popping out of gear on either.
What would cause the shifter to not go into second on one 900?
What would cause a sudden grinding into third on the other 900?
Thanks truly.
