So last year my much loved 85 turbo saw much abuse at the hands of vandals, an absent minded brother, and a 10 point buck. The combined damage and little mechanical issues that developed because of it made it more trouble than it was worth to fix, again. I had already restored the car basically twice. I had the interior completely out of the car and recovered the head liner and door panel inserts, put new lowering springs, shocks, ball joints and bushings, new AFM, coil, replaced the distributor, fixed the reverse gear problem, new front wheeel bearings and on and on. I'm not sure what my brother ran over but he messed something up bad and I just parked it.
So now I am back in the game with a very decent 89 SPG that just needs some TLC. What I'm trying to figure out is what I should save off the 85 for spares. Here's what I'm planning on taking:
Whale tail, louvers, airflow vent covers, door panel inserts, the 3 gague pod and senders, alternator(new bushings), coil, distributor, turbo and plumbing, springs, the AFM(one of you guys will need it), the upper hatch deck, speakers, APC, radiator and fans, fog lights, K&N.
Items I'm considering saving are the bilstiens(they're tuoring),front ball joints, the torque arms, the panhard rod, the drilled front rotors (I know the rotors wont fit the 89), the head liner, its like new, (I need to redo the 89).
I'm also considering the door and side window glass, just to be prepared.
Obviously some of that list above won't work on the 89 but I want to have it just in case someone else needs it. So can you think of anything I should grab that will work on the 89 I haven't mentioned? Bulbs, fuses, relays, ball joints? all of the suspension parts were refreshed 20k ago.
What about the sway bars?
I can put this thing on a lift and strip it as far as I want to go and then drop it right on a roll back and take what's left to the crusher and get 260 a ton for what's left.
Window motors! Gotta get those. What else?
