I was surprised to find out that the Michelins start out with only 8mm of tread (10/32), vs 10mm (13/32) on the Nokians. That makes a significant difference in deep snow + slush... though they should still be quite good on ice for a tire without studs...
I found this out buying an almost new used set of winter wheels for the 9-5... measured, thought they didn't have much tread for a winter tire, checked the michelin website + they were indeed in almost new condition! Anyway, it will be interesting to see how they work this year, they hopefully will be just fine! I will report back!
Nokian R would be a studless Hakka if you're not allowed studs and want deep snow performance: they start off at 12/32 + those I know who have them like them a lot...
