the oil seal seals against the crank pulley. So if you're looking for rebuilt accuracy on that seal, I'd throw a pulley at it.
Sometimes they get a groove in em where the old seal wore. At least drive the new seal in deeper than the old one. I have had it work for me both ways. New and not new pulley.
I've also had two pulleys fail over the years. The most recent being my 92, which failed at 120,xxx miles.
You can tell by marking across the pulley and observing it later for the two halves moving independent of each other, indicated by the mark not lining up anymore. It will also let out a squeal that can be mistaken for belt squeal, mostly on take off or hard shifts.
I just did all the seals, pulley on mine last week. Of course, this just opens the door for something else to break! entropy machines
