If I had to guess, I'd say either the switch is coming off the mount, or the switch itself is coming apart.

Remove the lower steering wheel cover piece and you will see 2 screws that hold the mount for the flasher switch and the wiper switch to the column. Take those screws out and the mount with the switches mounted should be able to slide down. Check to see that the 2 screws that hold the flasher switch to the mount are secure. The switch shouldn't wobble. Also check to see that the switch itself isn't separating. The face is held to the body with two stamped rivits. If the face comes loose, the switch comes apart inside and at best you will have intermittent functionality.

There is also another issue where the stalk won't stay in the active position because the internal parts have worn. That can be fixed as noted in another post below.

If you are mechanically inclined, you can put the switch back together and replace the rivits with screws, or just put it back together and wrap it with a zip-tie to hold it together. If that's a tough task for you, just put a new switch in.
