I had the heated seat pads replaced in my '88 900 Turbo and found that, as expected, the driver's side is controlled by the four-position switch under the headlight switch. However, it seems that the passenger's side simply heats up when someone sits in it and there is no way to manually shut it down (well besides pulling the fuse or disconnecting the power).
I've searched the BBS for quite awhile and found many posts that said the passenger's side turns on when someone sits in it (and the seat is below a certain temperature) and that the heated-seat switch has no effect on adjusting the temperature or turning it off. But, I've found a few posts that have stated that the heated seat switch does control that passenger's side seat (when someone is sitting in it).
From back in the day when the heated seats were working, I seem to remember that both were controllable by the heated seat switch (when someone was in the passenger's seat). Am I imagining things? Is it correct that it is automatic?
The manual is pretty vague on the subject as well.
thanks!
