Heater control valve options Posted by PaulS [Email] ![]() ![]() |
As SAAB OEM heater control valves has been NLS for a long time, replacement options are limited. My experience with aftermarket (scantech) valves has been mixed.
There was recently a discussion on then"general" board about rebuilding them. There is a guys who sells "rebuild" kits on the auction web site. (he also has a web site - google saab chicago diesel) I think the kit is kind of pricy and I am reluctant to try the rebuild kit because swapping the valve is a PITA and the only real test would be to rebuild and install one. Any one have experience with this?
Another option would be to take one of the metal valves (which seize but don't seem to leak) make sure it is in the open position and use some sort of external control. I've seen guys do this with a manual under the hood valve. You could rig up some sort of dash operated gizmo but it's likely to be a bit hokey.
Anyone else have other tested ideas?
