In normal driving you shouldn't have to double clutch upshifting or downshifting. Synchromesh (yes your transmission has synchromesh) works both ways. I've found that most of the time when people believe that they have a transmission synchromesh problem that the real cause is weak clutch hydraulics. If the clutch doesn't fully disengage then it will be hard to shift gears. Sometimes the actual benefit of double clutching is that pushing the pedal twice (or more times) momentarily pumps up the hydraulic circuit which then fully disengages the clutch. It's not that there's a synchro problem, there's a clutch hydraulic problem. You should take a look at that. Bleeding these clutch hydraulics gives a lot of people a hard time, even some professional mechanics (look at all the posts under that topic on this board as proof), and one might eventually be tempted to suggest that you double clutch instead of admitting that he just couldn't properly bleed the system (blame it on the transmission).
