I had an OEM whaletail that I made a paper template from to locate where the seam should be. I used it to mark the SAS tail, then I ran some 1/8" masking tape along the line as a guide. Using a v-groove woodworking chisel I free-handed the groove and then cleaned it up with some folded up 80-grit sandpaper. I brushed some resin on it, let that dry, and then sanded again with finer paper. You can't go too deep because the fiberglass is kind of thin--unless you want to open up the back side and add some more fiberglass to the inside to reinforce it. I considered making a guide and running a Dremel along it, but the chisel worked good for me.
