Most likely your problem is a failed clutch master cylinder. It won't look bad at all, rarely leaks, just the piston seal doesn't seal any more and fails to push the slave.
Bleeding it might help but it will only be temporary, very temporary.
There are kits available to rebuild these.
Didn't put both screws thru the firewall? I'd hope at least one. These are studs, and original fasteners were M8 aircraft-type nuts tho I personally always have replaced them with standard nuts as they're lots easier to put back on and aren't likely to come loose if tightened.
You could also use short M8 bolts if studs are missing.
