Saabato,
with your description provided I'd say that it's worth checking that GM45614 (there's no GM55614 transmission that I'm aware of) and if it turns out to be good then get it installed. After then you can either use your old one for parts (but you have to mind the gearbox generations/version which are incompatible when it comes to a specific internal part; more on this on fixmysaab - fix my C900 - engine and transmission repairs - tranny info page) or get it fixed when you find a decent shaft and ring gear.
N.B.: if I'm right about that tranny ID then you'll have to also swap the front covers. GM45x gearboxes use solid front mount while GM55x trannies use hydraulic ones. You may want to keep your current drive ratio - go with your old sprockets from the chain drive.
It's impossible to predict then a whining tranny (transmissions can whine with their bearings or gears; yours appears to have a whining gears) gonna break out - this can happen right upon the next drive or in 5 years. And you better do not kill it since then your chances on even parting it out will be significantly decreased. Any chipped gears or a rings are weakened and have far less ability to transfer the torque so further wear and tear goes in avalanche action (in tempo presto).
Buona fortuna,
Zig
