Re: Front hub warped-what's the solution??? Posted by Landjet [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Front hub warped-what's the solution???, nicknick ![]() |
I'll kick in my experience with this. There is "turning" the rotor and there is "grinding". I never have my rotors "turned" after having a machine shop properly "grind" them.
The procedure is simplified by the following though there are better descriptions of the process.
1) Media blast the surface that the hub contacts the rotor. This removes any rust/material that will impede establishing a control surface.
2) Once that plane is free from contamination, one of the rotor surfaces is ground parallel to the media blasted hub.
3) The opposite side is ground, therefore in harmony with the hub face and an exact parallel surface to the opposite side.
4) Make sure your mating surface ( hub on the car ) is free from debris and flat.
If your machine shop does the above (1-3), then the rotor has only runout that a bad bearing would provide to dial indication after it is installed.
The problem I have with taking this kind of "precaution" is that it costs me $50 per rotor, and if I buy them right, I can purchase a new rotor for about the same money. So, I use this process only on the Powerslot rotors that are Cryo treated that cost more than the stock Brembo for example....
Given all the above, it has worked for me, though it seems like a big effort, and I can tell you that the auto shops don't like to take the rotors to the machine shop for grinding when they have those whizbang on the car "turning" systems to use instead of sending them for outside processing.
Sometimes the easy way....is the hard way.
