I've spent a lot of time in the last few days trying to figure out why my a/c keeps cycling on and off . After reading a lot and checking many things , deduction led me to the anti-frost switch . One of the things that led me to this was that the compressor cycling times varied depending on ventilation fan speed . So it appears the anti-frost switch is functioning and adjusting to temp variations at the evaporator , but the switch is cutting the power to the compressor to soon since there is no sign of icing on the evaporator . After finally getting a good look at the anti-frost switch from under the dash (no thanks to the less than excellent bentley manual that just shows a hand pulling it out of a hole in the fender that is way to small to get your hand in) I can hear it click on or off about half a second before the compressor does . Since the evaporator has no frost or ice on it , the switch turning on and off like this must mean that it is not functioning correctly right ? If someone knows otherwise please let me know . I can't see how the anti-frost switch is attached and how to remove it . Does anyone know ? I found out from a lot of searching on this board that the switch has an adjustment screw on the side . I can see the screw , but was wondering if anyone has knowledge about how to adjust it . The a/c system seems like it can be a pretty tricky diagnostic (I've read quite a few things that contradict each other) so if any of my conclusions seem erroneous let me know . I've basically asked three questions in this post and will appreciate answers to any of them , but unless I'm wrong about some things I think the info I need the most is how much turning of the anti-frost adjustment screw makes how much difference in its response temperature change . For example : half a turn equals a 10 degree F response difference from the switch . Thanks in advance for responses .
