are there good ones in junk yards? Posted by Snowmobile [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: is it possible to repair a broken brake line, Justin VanAbrahams ![]() |
The situation might be different in California, but many saabs I see here (saltbelt) have the lines rusting out in the drivers side footwells. I think the normal mats/carpets hold some moisture that gets tracked in with snow/slush/salt, and they corrode slowly from the outside + eventually leak, eat the paint away and then eat away the floor. Huge mess. Both my cars have this to varying degrees. See image of the damage in my 1993 (that line hasn't lost pressure yet and the photo is 2 years old)... the 1989 was way worse! I rust proof my cars, but nobody sprays under the carpets, so that area is vulnerable.
My indy (who has loads of 900 parts cars out back) fabricates new lines when they go. he did the one on the rear axle of the 1993 and the interior lines on the 1989. Charges $20/line + installation (about $100) iirc. For me, that's a no-brainer! I'm thinking of just replacing all the lines in the 1993 to avoid future hassle.
