Maybe you just need to restate your situation. If the battery light comes on with the key in the "run" position while the engine is not running that's perfectly normal and correct. The light should go off only with the engine running. The light indicates that there is an imbalance in the charging system which there is whenever the battery is fully charged and the alternator is not spinning. The light should go off a few seconds after the engine is started. If the light stays on with the engine running then you have a problem.
