You'll need to add padding to the panel before you cover it with the fabric, or the hardware outline will show through. They were originally padded, but the padding disintegrates over time. I use some headliner fabric, which is a fabric with a thin padding bonded to it. I glue it on the paqnel fabric-side down and foam-side up, trim it to the shape of the panel, and then glue the finish fabric over that. You do not need to wrap the padding around the edge, just trim it flush.
