I just did a search and it appears that you're the only one who likes Bilstein HD's. I recently finished my first 1000 miles with them and now I think that they're designed for their domestic - and fantastic - roads of Germany and Austria:
- on a perfect road they are darn good
- on a road with good surface, but wavy side-view, they're good (but you may not like it if you've got a sea-sickness)
- on a cracked road surface the handling is still a tad better then with originals, but it's very loud and feels bumpy; considering Comfort x Handling factory, it's not worth it
- on a pit-holed road, it's plain awful; I do not see any improved handling over stock dampers and there's just no comfort at all to talk about
- but on an unpaved country-road (e.g. rally-cross) they appear to be a tad better - in both handling-damping and comfort - then stock dampers!
The replaced shocks where factory Sachs's - and they were in perfect shape and measured good score on the stand even though they were 20 years old and had made 160K+ miles! I was really really amazed!
So, I wonder on where you are - where are those nice roads in US where those billies shine the best? I don't think you do a lot of gravel rallying.
Cheers,
Zig
P.S.
I chose Billies over Konies mainly because of German engineering and factoring vs Holland (there in Holland they do only two things well: flowers and another thing which isn't to be discussed here). Here in Mordor Billies and Konis share about the same price tags: this year Billies can be a little bit cheaper and the next year it'll be Konis with more attractive pricing.
