NTC = Negative thermal coefficient. A thermistor that changes resistance relative to the temperature that it's exposed to. The value of it's resistance at any moment is conveyed to the ECU (electronic control unit) of the fuel injection system so the ECU can trim the fuel mixture appropriately for the engine temperature. A bad NTC may tell the ECU that the engine is cold when it's actually fully warmed up in which case the mixture would be way too rich and engine performance would suffer.
