I love my 8V turbo

I bought a 1980 900 turbo last year with a B-type 8-valve which is the heavier predecessor to the H-type in the 84. I was skeptical since it does not share engine parts with my '90,'91,and '94 turbos that I currently own. However, from the very beginning I was surprised not only at the better-than-expected acceleration and feel, but also the reliability. It has been possibly the most reliable of all of the 14 c900s that I have owned in recent years. If parts were easier to find, I would fill my garage with them. They are very simple and easy to work on for the most part, much more room in the engine bay, and not hard to diagnose if something goes wrong - it can be narrowed down easier since there are not as many electronic or digital things like the 16v has.
There are some downsides - not quite as much power on hills, CIS can be tricky, and parts are a bit harder to find (check out RockAuto at times they practically give stuff away for 8valves), and not as programmable or upgradable as the 16V. But they definitely have character. I say go for it.
