Trunk lock/latch assy removal? Posted by Snowmobile [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I have a sedan (1989) that has a so far gone trunk latch assembly that I can barely activate it manually reaching in there from inside the trunk - squeezing the handle does not work (moves but feels like it needs lubrication). central locking is disconnected electrically and mechanically. I've dug into this many times prior, thinking I had it working only to have it stick again... at the moment my latch is a bungee cord...
so... I'd like to take the whole mess out of the car and have a closer look at what is actually wrong, and possibly just swap in another. How does one get the latch mechanism etc out of the car? It is easy to remove the lower part of the latch (2 torx)... but the mechanism connected to the handle? how is that bolted into the car? The bentley provides no useful information in this regard (I'm referring to part 3 "Latch Handle" in Fig 25 on page 830-10). I think the 2 threaded holes in the assy in the picture are just the ones that the torx go into... but the assy is not loose after they are undone - feels like it is bolted on somewhere else also... any thoughts?
lock cylinder seems to work fine...
thanks!
