Throttle body switch

On my '87 900T (SPG) there's a lever-type microswitch on the outbd side of the throttle body, below the throttle cable quadrant, that gets activated when the throttle is at idle. "Activated" meaning the lever on the switch is depressed when the throttle is at idle. It's an SPDT switch, so one set of contacts is open when the other set is closed and vice versa. Can someone tell me whether the contacts should be open or closed at idle? It can be hooked up either way.
The switch appears to be the same type of switch that my '85T had forward of the cable, but on that car I believe it was the AC full-throttle cut-out switch. Looks like that function on the '87 is handled by the LH controller and the throttle position switch. I'm not sure what this switch does on the '87. If anyone can enlighten me I'd be very grateful.
