Noise on cold start

I just did a major refresh of the engine on my '87 SPG, that included a rebuilt cylinder head (by Scanwest), and new timing chain, guides, etc. New head is the later style, without the oiler tubes.
So far everything seems to be working fine (have a few hundred miles on it now), except on cold starts I sometimes hear a subtle knocking/tapping/rattling noise that is regular and increases with engine speed. It goes away when the engine starts to warm up (usually no more than a couple blocks of driving), then the engine is nothing but silky smooth and quiet. The initial noise seems to be worse the colder the engine is.
I don't know that this noise wasn't there before, but I don't remember it, and when I started the project the temp was warmer. I didn't touch the bottom end of the motor (pistons, main & rod bearings), but nearly everything else got some attention.
Interested to hear what people's suspicions may be about what the noise may be, and whether I should try to isolate it or just turn the radio up.
