I practiced on the bench a few times to change the motor only with my spare Master Cylinder/ABS assembly...rubber seal and filter screen kept falling out of place. In the car - no way could I have confirmed the rubber seal was in pace, the filter did not fall out and the slot in the motor to the coupling and then to the pump was in alignment, so I removed the whole Master Cylinder from the car and changed the motor on the bench. I did find the old motor drew erratic amps from a battery charger compared to the replacement motor that had constant amps. The old motor was lazy and would stick until I tapped it with a wrench. The new motor would not run after putting it back in. It took an hour to find out that the motor ran when jumped at the relay box and there was a broken wire at the pressure switch connector. I could not remove the terminal in the connector and the wire was real short, so I spliced in a spare connector with long wires. Also found the rubber hose to the master to the pump was leaking after I put it back in the car. Tough spot to get to, but I did replace the hose after 30 minutes. Conclusion - 10 hours and the ABS pump is running again. Not fun.
