I've had to swap out 3 in the last year. One on the '80 900t which was the original fully metal valve. That thing was awesome, except that the rod connector tip was brittle plastic. So that broke off and it was useless. I stuck in a used original Saab plastic one from a '93 vert and it has worked great.
The next one was in the '90 SPG. It was bad when I bought it - also broken rod connector tab (metal). Swapped it with another used one from a '90 and soon thereafter found that the pipes going through the firewall had become brittle with age and crumbled (probably sending chunks of plastic through the engine). Swapped that on out for another used one and it has been excellent ever since.
So I suggest finding good used ones - check all the pipes for brittleness and make sure the valve does not stick or go slow when you spin the rod connector.
