Refurbishing 85T Front Seats- Bottom Removal Posted by Roger D [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I'm converting my 90T from cardboard leather to 85 cloth seats. Got a very decent cloth interior from a 85T. Both front seat bottoms have deteriorated webbing that holds the pull down wires to the seat fabric. Don't know what that webbing is called so I hope that gives a picture. I took them to an upholstery shop weeks ago and asked for a turnkey repair. Now they are swamped and nothings happening. The guy said he'd show some tricks on dissassembly and he'd have time to stitch in new webbing. I've removed and installed seat bottoms before but these seats are original. They have the rubber/burlap foam support intact. They are pre-wire grid seats. My problem is they still have the string ties that are knotted into slotted plastic washers. No wire hooks that I'm used to. What is the trick to removing the string ties and then getting the strings back thru the foam upon reassembly?
