I own a lot of cars from a lot of brands, and quite honestly, hands down, the Fiero forum is the single best of any I've participated in. Those guys are NUTS. Everything from "what is the best valve stem" to "I wondered what my car would look like if it was six inches longer, so I stretched it." NUTS. Every other thread is an intense cosmetic change or drivetrain swap - one of my favorites being a guy who decided to put an Audi A8 4.2l engine in his car, but in order to do so switched from a transverse motor to longitudinal using a Passat FWD transmission. It's madness over there.
Saabnet is head and shoulders over virtually every other luxury brand I've found. But, I gotta mention surprisingly the guys on some Cadillac forums aren't afraid to get dirty, either.
Forums I check regularly include the aforementioned Fiero forum, a couple Cadillac forums, an Audi forum, a VW forum, and a couple vintage Ford forums. I periodically check on a Volvo forum, a couple Merkur forums, Solstice forum, a PT Cruiser forum, and a Focus forum. I infrequently check on an Alfa Romeo forum, an Accord forum, and a BMW forum. Yeah, I get around. ;) Maybe oddly, this is the only Saab forum I really ever visit. There are others, but Saabnet is still home for me. :)
