Unless the car has been in an accident or is severely rusted it's not likely to need an alignment. These cars don't just go out of alignment BUT control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. all wear out and can then allow the wheel to roll along at the wrong angle causing uneven tire wear. If the car was ever wrecked or is severely rusted the upper or lower control arm(s) or steering knuckle can be displaced. Of course someone may have messed with the alignment shims and knowing the history of the car will help with that determination. The toe setting can be wrong as a result of replacing the tie rod ends and not re-setting it correctly but that will generally result in identical wear on both front tires, not the kind of wear you are describing.
