on the hunt... Posted by ChrisMiami [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Best battery for '93 900 Convertible?, ChrisMiami ![]() |
Wow, that's a great lot of good information - thanks!
The biggest hole in my knowledge is how much extra power I need to look for to run the top, windows, locks, etc. when the engine isn't running.
Looked at Odyssey (Extreme PC1200), but they don't seem to approve BatteryTender as a charger so that's probably not a good idea (the car is not active, it needs a trickler and that's the one I got).
Braille seems cool, and light! B129 has 813 PCA, that seems good... Ah, found a dealer that rates the B129 at CCA:323, CA:526, PCA:813 (PCA is the only rating Braille itself publishes). 323 CCA? Most battery finders rate Saab batteries between 500-700. Huhm. Maybe better stay away a company keeping the most critical information a secret (even TreadStone's info stops as you go up into the product line and none of 'em has enough CCA)...

Autozone's battery finder tells me, "We're sorry, but there are no results in this parts category for 1993 Saab 900 4 Cylinders L 2.0L FI Turbo. Please select another vehicle or click on the Parts tab at the top of the page to see the available parts for this vehicle." Oh well...
Sears gives me some piece of crap Plus Start as the ONLY selection for my car. Not gonna happen (although it does have 650 CCA). I think that's the one that crapped out after an 8-month rest. http://www.sears.com/plus-start-automotive-battery-group-size-26-price/p-02830126000P?sLevel=3&redirectType=SKIP_LEVEL
Interstate: 525 or 500 CCA. Doesn't seem to be AGM.
Going back to Sears (deleting car search cookies in order to see other stuff), it looks like their "high end" batteries are just about the size of the Saab's engine and won't fit unless I convert my entire trunk into a battery holder: http://www.sears.com/automotive-batteries-car-batteries&Absorbed%20Glass%20Mat_Odyssey_DieHard_Braille%20Battery/s-1100206?filter=Battery%20Design_Brand_Brand_Brand&keywordSearch=false&previousSort=ORIGINAL_SORT_ORDER&viewItems=50
This would be my choice at this point - but jeez - 53 pounds?? WTF did they do, make it out of lead? Hahaha! I wonder how close I wedge this in next to the Turbo and not melt it... http://www.sears.com/diehard-platinum-automotive-battery-group-size-34-price/p-02850034000P?prdNo=4&blockNo=4&blockType=G4
Am I making this more difficult than it should be? I just want an AGM, BCI 25/26 at 750-800 CCA - is that too much to ask? Oh put that in Google and up comes Exide.
Huh - Exide? Sold at BJ's. Their battery finder says Saab OE CCA = 405, so they offer a classic and regular at 450 or 525 CCA. I like the Exide Northstar PL-AGM24 840 CCA but yikes - $300 clams! Maybe the Exide Edge FP-AGM24 @ 710 CCA for $161.00...
Anything to disrecommend that?
