and my solution required 2 pair of the external "strut type" compressors.
I rented a loaner pair from local AP store....then spaced up the lower set of jaws with 3 each 1/2NPT pipe couplings, each compressor. My car has the Turbo springs, longer but less stiff than SPG I'm told. The single pair of compressors worked fine for extraction, but I found a 2nd pair was helpful for the recompression/installation to get the 4 live coils to a length that my "pipe coupling shortened" strut compressors could get a bite on the spring. Machinist buddy loaned his pair of "Chinese/Taiwanese" Acme thread type screw with 2 jaws upper, single jaw lower end. I installed this pair and did a PRE-compression , then installed the special set front/back of the spring.
NOTE - position of the strut compressors is critical to success! Reference the location of the lower spring perch to the UCA. If you put the FRONT one too far rotated the screw thread will be up inside the shock tower area. Likewise if the REAR one is too far rotated toward center of chassis, you will be UNDER the shock weldment (like I have one right now...caught between the spring and the body).
If I can manage to insert a pic, here is how they came out.
If you have not done before, BE CAREFUL....these springs are like loaded guns, treat them as such.
