The Red Box apc was a factory modified APC offered by Saab for the '93 and '94 Commemorative Editions and as an accessory for other turbo models. It does give a moderate performance increase when installed along with a 2.8 bar fuel pressure regulator and a modified distributor vacuum advance which is impossible to find. You can install the APC and FPR only and get a performance increase as well, but it is not a giant amount of increase.

If you are looking to really boost performance, most people opt for larger fuel injectors, modified red box APC, 3" exhaust downpipe, large front-mount intercooler, open air filter, and custom EPROM fuel chip. These can work well when installed and tuned just right, but a perfect balance is hard to find.

However, lately there has been significant progress made in ignition replacement to a more modern T5.5 ignition that was offered for the GM Saabs. If you are looking for something that will be smoother and more manageable for around the same price, I would suggest a T5.5 ignition swap.
