but the ABS system in these cars *is* pretty dumb, so who knows?
I happened to know the answer: there isn't such code in ATE ABS Mk II. There is a pressure sensor which toggles on (and off) the pump and the warning light (as well as ABS ECU). So if you see that ABS indicator light going on, then there is just the same code in ABS ECU; if the indicator is off, then there's no DTC in ABS ECU - there's no *secret* DTC about this issue. What there is, is the E132 code which in English goes for 'pump is running too much continuously'.
You guys often miss the important idea of MkII system: it is modular and ABS (anti-block) functionality is separated from the main braking functionality, you can remove ABS ECU off the car and still have 100% brakes.
My original post intended to accentuate the point originally made by Justin: back in '80-90s there were lots of hot days - and they were as hot as it goes nowadays - and these ATE MkII systems did behave back then, properly. So something have worn out to cause this issue to happen and my primary suspect it the brake fluid which many folks do not change that often as it must be changed. The second suspect is the pump (the DC motor and the rollers).
One might want trying the wet sock technique on the pump motor and check whether the system recovers to normal more quickly comparing to the same wet sock being applied to pressure bomb.
