Two last things to cover and put this episode to bed-- at least for the moment. First, having rid the fuel system of watery gas, as evidenced by inspection of the last quart of about three I added to be sure all was said and done (clear/orange fraction of fuel), I used the remaining ~gallon to drive about a mile to the nearest gas station, level warning on the dash shining brightly and the needle firmly on "E". I expected the warning lamp as that is what always happens when the needle hits "E". What I didn't expect was that it would take 16.44 gallons to fill the tank. In all previous incidents of "E" I think 13.5 gal was the max I ever put in before and the notion of a 4 gallon backup will almost certainly instill a false sense of confidence that is gonna leave me stranded.
Second, my youngest daughter and I took the FrankenSaab on a bit of a roadie today to visit a college she has in her sights. The car ran true and firm every mile of the way and with my best little girl by my side on a sunny June day traveling through Wisconsin with the windows partly down...
Priceless
