Off the top of my head I don't remember exactly what steps are involved to do it, but these lock cylinders can be taken apart, cleaned, rebuilt, etc. I've had instances where a lock cylinder body was bad, and I was able to scavenge the pins and move them to a good lock body and keep the same key (one key for the car). As I recall there's some kind of fairly thin snap ring or other locking ring that holds it all together, and I think there's a brass plate that covers the side where you "load" the pins and springs. It's been quite a while since I've had one apart. Just make sure you keep track of the pins, but even if you don't you can figure it out by putting the key in the lock (with the lock out of the car).
