It's an early unit Posted by Cmyles [Email] (#1126) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Cmyles) on Sun, 18 Aug 2013 07:41:59 In Reply to: Dry Transmission, Jack Livingston, Sat, 17 Aug 2013 15:08:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Jack,
Whoops, this post responds to your Saturday night post (below) with the series number.
That number makes it a unit that pre-dates internal shift centering so you won't feel the rod automatically rotate to neutral when it's moved out of gear and the car you install it into must have the shift centering spring assembly installed. My memory says that internal shift centering premiered with the 1986 cars but I may be off by a year or so. There is a detent ball and spring that is accessed by removing the side cover that has the dipstick. The ball and spring will be in the upper left area as you are looking at it. That ball and spring may have a problem (rust) or someone may have installed an extra ball or something in an effort to help hold the gears engaged and that's why it's hard to shift.
