It’s alive! Turns out the Bentley manual is wrong as far as the spark plug wire to cap locations go. I don’t see how the distributor could be turned 180, it does not have a vacuum line but does have the electrical connection on the top. I was getting backfire through the intake which told me that it was ignition timing. I started researching it and found many online forum posts about the books being wrong, I swapped the spark plug leads around 180 and it started on the 3rd crank! Once the lifters calmed down and it got up to temp its running good. I have to set the base timing tonight. Im glad I didn’t have it towed to a shop after all the work I did to it with the head gasket, all new vac lines, new hoses, water pump, belts, gaskets etc etc etc. it felt pretty damn good to take it for a short drive last night!
