I've had this problem with a couple of c900's and I think I've figured it out, though I haven't repaired and tested.
I believe it has to do with the windshield gasket, and for me turned up
after having windshield replaced.
I think the seal between the gasket and the body is broken when the gasket is moved when R&R of glass.
The water gets behind the edge of gasket, runs down the LH side of the windshield and then down behind carpet on inside of wheel well. The roof rails also channel water down here if car is parked sloping slightly forward.
I've also found two small changes made in the '90's c900's that may have addressed this. One is addition of drain tubes and closing of other holes in the gutter at base of windshield on each side, and the filling of a gap at the bottom of the 'A' pillar in same area.
My solution - not yet tested - will be to reseal the top and sides of the windshield gasket to the body with a non-hardening sealant - there is a 3M product used by auto glass installers - and fill the gap spot at the bottom of the A at the ends of the gutter under the windshield.
Not sure if I'll try adding the plastic drain tubes.
I haven't figured why this seems to happen on LH and not on RH ?
