All good suggestions -- I would start with disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU. Then start it and run for say 30 minutes. If the check engine light is still illuminated, then use the Bentley directions to record the codes, look them up in the book and report back.
Over the winter, one of my cars will flash the check engine after the battery has been out, and the car hasn't run for months. I'll get it running, and after it's warmed up, run it hard, and the light clears. This car has been significantly modified though.....so, it's flashing the check engine for fuel reasons, and then clears itself.
Having said that, if your timing is advanced too much, it would run rich, and the check engine light might come on.
OK, so once again, pulling the codes would be the next logical step if it persists.
Good luck
