91 ABS violent swerve on hard braking....FIXED! Posted by DET17 [Email] (#1254) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DET17) on Thu, 3 Jul 2014 04:09:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Some will recall that I have posted several threads on this topic. My 91TC has misbehaved badly since purchase....when put into hard braking the LR corner always swerved out toward the center line (left that is for us LH drive vehicles).
Well a long procession of brake work, including new calipers rear, rebuilt fronts, all new dampers, inspection of lines to ensure no blockages existed, even disconnection of the ABS ECU under the back set didn't cure this. Whilst converting to the 5 speed I put new rotors up front, machined & adjusted the rears (parking brake function is perfect).
FINALLY - reading that the ABS proportioning valves can be damaged by improper front brake work (hack mechanics pushing crappy fluid out of caliper back into the ABS), and noting that my car had new front hoses when I bought it, I decided to pull a boneyard front proportioning module and install.
Done last night.....bleed the brakes to get the air out.....and she brakes perfectly straight!!!!!
No more death swerve, scaring the wife and I when it happens. 4 stops at my test track and she stops straght as an arrow with hands off (they were close by) the wheel.
Now, the only deficiency left is a blink of the YELLOW ABS light which lasts a couple seconds. I might need the accumulator, as I read that is one of the causes for the light to blink. Anyone know the OEM part# on that accumulator? I read somewhere a Buick part# is identical.
Thanks to all who helped troubleshoot this!
