Installing Radio, wiring help?

Hi all. My 87 T Vert has a gaping hole where the clarion used to be. I bought a new head unit to replace it. I've identified the 4 sets of speaker wires and where they go. After studying the Bentley, I still don't understand what is the function of each wire that ends in the plastic plug that used to go into the Clarion...there are 5: red, black, grey, green, and white/brown. I see these in the Bentley, I just have never looked at one of these diagrams and don't really know how to read it.
Based on doing this in my 240z like 20 years ago, I connected the Red and Black with the ignition and ground wire on the new stereo, nothing happened. Stereo doesn't come on, no fuses blowing, no sparking, nothing. Radio fuse in the box is fine.
Can anyone help me identify which of these 5 wires go where?
