Thanks everybody. Landjet, the clunk only happens when I shift into first or second, after deceleration, and before I take my foot off the clutch...could it still be motor mounts? i'm thinking no, because there is no engine load going on.
I'm no mechanic really, but RS i would think the same would be true with the CV joints...I'm not putting any stress on the driveline because the clutch is engaged, and yet there is still a 'clunk'
As for the pinion bearing, maybe it IS giving up the ghost, but the tranny put in was a rebuilt, not a donor with unknown miles (or thats what the PO was sold anyway). It only has about 30 K on it, and most recent tranny oil change I have a record for was about 20K ago, with redline.
Given my limited mechanical abilities, do y'all think a decent compromise on replacing the tranny fluid would be to use an extractor to pump the oil out of transmission and replace that way, instead of going through the trouble of removing the differential gasket?
