in the same boat... again... Posted by Snowmobile [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Stinkin sticky brakes, CBS ![]() |
Pads stuck to rotors makes a lot more sense. What I do to avoid this is move the car periodically. For a while I used to swap 1 battery between the 2 cars, so the one sitting would not start! So once every 2 weeks I would roll it enough (like 12-18") to move the position of the pad on the rotor). That works. I was having lots of seized rotors prior.
However, I still have issues like you and this is driving me crazy: The car sat for 2 months this summer (I was actually driving it periodically but ran into some trouble with it starting when I got back from vacation and didn't have the time to deal with it, or need, with 2 other running saabs). Now a rear caliper is sticking. Rotor is really badly rusting also. I suspect there might be a small brake fluid leak. No reason to have so much rust o na rotor in 2 months! brakes are dragging on the rotor presumably from a stuck caliper, but also perhaps from the rough rotor surface. the solution in the past has been to replace calipers with rebuilts (+ new pads and rotors). Not cheap. I don't know why the pistons are so inclined to stick. Both my 900's have had this problem. Not sure if it is indicative of small brake line leaks, poor lubrication or what? I get this work done by my indy though so I am not too knowledgeable on this. I do a lot of things on my cars, but I'm not well equipped to manage brake work, and I'd rather not mess something up on such an important safety item.
