key-in-ignition chime won't stop with key out Posted by nomarkup [Email] ![]() ![]() |
The gremlins worked overtime over Thanksgiving, and now when I take the key out of the ignition, and open the door, the chime indicating that the key is still IN the ignition goes off non-stop. My car was at Swedish Auto Factory in Santa Clara CA when this occurred (Dan there noticed it too) and he wasn't working on anything ignition related. (But he did fix my cruise issue...bad speedo sensor... Thanks Dan, you guys rock! Excellent diagnosticians.)
Dan suggested that there is a spring loaded pin at the bottom of the ignition cylinder that gets depressed by the key and should move back up as the key is removed. If it doesn't move up, the chime continues because it thinks the key is still in there. He suggested I spray just a touch of WD40 down there to free it up. No luck.
So, anybody got an idea? Ignitions switch works fine otherwise.
