Like your car, my 4-door sedan developed a swimming pool in the trunk. Once I found the drains and emptied it, it took the next rain storm to see the water tracks down the sides of the trunk from those body seams. A couple of dabs of clear silicone worked into the seam took care of it.
Take a look at the body seams across the rain gutters on the sides of the body in the trunklid opening, about 1/3 of the way from the front to the rear. On the 4-door, the body panels overlap in such a way that water running down the gutter towards the back of the car is directed into the trunk rather than away from it. Convertibles are probably similar - I'll be able to verify when I pull the cover off mine after tomorrows rain is over.
