They run OK with good fuel pressure and as soon as it drops, the engine cuts out and with no tach signal, the fuel pump quits. So, you wouldn't have the tank emptying into the cabin unless you hotwire around the pump as I've seen mentioned on this board. Kinda makes me want to duck when I read about wiring around relays, etc. to hotwire fuel pumps.
Having said that, I wonder if the return line were to break inside the cabin, that the pump would keep providing fuel to the engine if the fuel pump basket were still filling up by gravity in the tank. I know I've emptied a fuel tank by taking off the return line on the fuel rail, and the engine kept running while filling up a gas can......
Our safety regulations for land speed racing don't allow fuel lines inside the cabin, so we moved them to the center tunnel under an aerodynamic pan -- the exhaust vents to atmosphere straight through the right front fender, so no exhaust pipes are competing for space with fuel lines.
