AC compressor wiring questions Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Tue, 9 Jun 2015 06:13:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Beginning the process of sorting out the electrical gremlins in my AC system that are keeping the compressor from coming on properly. the clutch will engage when I run 12V from the battery to the blue wire on the top o the unit. So here is my question:
there are two wires coming out of the top of the unit - one red and one blue with both connected to what looks like aswitch. The red wire comes off the harness, and the blue wire vanishes into the unit (looks like it goes to the clutch). When I was doing my hurried preliminary testing, I got the clutch to engage when I supplied power to the blue wire, but not when I energized the red wire. That's exactly opposite of what I'd always thought (assumed the blue was ground and the red was hot).
Can some one please explain what these wires are all about? Is that a switch that they both lead to and what is it's function? Shouldn't the clutch have kicked in when I energized the red wire?
