Probably won't help leakage Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Tue, 4 Aug 2015 08:10:06 In Reply to: Lower temp thermo/fan switch to reduce coolant loss?, BHJ, Tue, 4 Aug 2015 07:19:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Having said that, the 82 degree thermostat and fan switch has been recommended for some time now. I've run that combo for decades and it works well.
You'll need to find the source of your leak. Could be a hose, crack in the coolant reservoir, pinhole leak in the radiator, or a water pump seal. (Worst case of course would be a head gasket problem.) If you don't find and fix the leak it will only get worse over time.
ADDENDUM: Don't forget the heater core and heater control valve. Though you would probably notice if those were leaking due to the puddle inside the car, or at least the antifreeze smell on a real slow leak.
